The Minted Project Part 2: Apparel & Accessories
Part II: All About my Minted New York Concept Designs
Part II of the Minted Project is posted here! I broke up this article because Substack told me it was too long for email :( I also wanted to make sure all the designs got the attention they deserved :) I was able to reach the Minted team about my work on Twitter. .2.) Logos, Apparel & Accessory Designs
The Minted Mint
Part of the reason I took on this project was to was challenge my ability to use software that I don’t go to as often. I have minimal vector design experience and I knew I wanted to make apparel and accessories, so vector based programs like Illustrator would be best, and thus was a perfect storm for me to learn.
I had drawn up my initial concepts for everything Minted related in Procreate, and then proceeded to bring those into Illustrator and hashed them out.
My first idea that I really liked was a play on the literal concept of a mint, so that was the first logo I came up with.
I love how this turned out. The edges were a bit tricky to play out but I love the fact they also double as mint leaves, as well as the edges of a candy wrapper. I think its the perfect amount of literal for a strong logo.
Since Minted is collaborating with New Era on hats, I thought it was fitting to mock it up on some tan ones here:

The Minted Crest
I wanted a more detailed logo that was a play on the brands current use of the winged foot. This came along from playing around in Illustrator with concepts until I came up with something I like. Here is the the final result.
I feel like this logo is great as a detailed piece on front chest, back of a shirt or on a hat and that is mocked here:

The Minted Coins
I could do an entire post about just these coins. They might be my best idea of the whole project, and not only do I think the designs turned out good, but the mockups turned out fantastic.
My idea was once again a play on the word mint. About 10 years ago I visited the US Mint in Philadelphia with my family and I saw where all the coins in the nation get made. This came back to me when I was drawing up ideas for Minted, and I thought it would integrate very well into their current jewelry lineup.
Here I made 2 versions of the coin s to offer to customers, and they are made to be used as pendants on necklaces or as keychains.
When I created this sketch in Procreate I really liked the idea, and thought that the vector turned out good and I was unsure about the mockups until I started playing around in Illustrator and Photoshop.

I used the 3D Materials, the bevel tools and some Camera Raw and I am happy with the finals!
Final Thoughts
This project pushed the boundaries of design for me and what I thought my skillset was. I forced to learn thing in Illustrator I didn’t even know existed and actually write down some of my ideas instead of just jumping into projects. It also sparked an interest in diving deeper into apparel and product design. Hoping to do more of that in future :)
Thanks to Minted for some great inspiration!
